Weightlifting will not make women "unfeminine" or masculine unless it's taken to an extreme. By extreme, we mean spending hours a day in the gym with a strictly regimented nutrition plan over several, dedicated years and lifting extremely heavy weights.

Weightlifting can be a women's best friend if her goal is to sculpt certain body parts or lose weight. Fat is bigger than muscle, pound for pound. The image below demonstrates that five pounds of fat is bigger than five pounds of muscle.

This means that a two hundred pound fit person will look smaller than a 200 pound unfit person. It also means that your weight may not be a true reflection of your fitness level, and thus measurements like BMI may also not reflect your fitness level.
